The hallmark of excellence, the test of greatness, is consistency.
~Jim Tressel

Day 6 - 90

Sooooo working on being CoNsiStEnT!  My focus in this 1% Change {90-Day Challenge} is developing the SkiLL of perseverance.  And one way I am working on developing this skill is to reset after a slip up.  Instead of throwing in the towel I want to get right back on track and keep on keeping on.  Huge challenge for me, Miss All-Or-Nothing Girl I am!  Please help me God!

What about you?  How consistent are you in the area that you’re focusing on for a 1% Change?  Do you need to be more consistent?

Day 5 – 1% Change {90-Day Challenge} Asset or Liability?

You will never change your life until you change something you do daily.
~John C. Maxwell

Day 5 - 90Hi there Peace with Food Friends!

We’ve all probably heard that breakfast is an ImPorTanT part of the day.  Okay, every moment is an important part of the day, but since we are talking about breakfast, what’s your go-to? Are you intentional and proactive about MapPiNg oUt a pLaN for your day, including how you will eat, or does life just happen without much thought or input from you?

Whatever your 1% Change is, consider what your plan is for making that change a ReaLiTy.

The reason I am focusing on breakfast is because it is such a BiG bAnG FoR yOuR bUcK.  That’s because it sets the tone for the rest of your day.

How about you?  What is your approach for breakfast.  Is it helping point you in the right direction?  Is that time of the day an AsSeT or LiAbiLitY?

Speaking of breakfast, here’s a peek at what I eat that keeps me SaTisFieD all morning!

Let’s make this a great 1% Change day!!

Day 1 – 1% Change {90-Day Challenge} Bulldog Determination

As long as we are persistent in our pursuit of our deepest destiny, we will continue to grow.  We cannot choose the day or time when we will fully bloom.  It happens in its own time.
~Denis Waitley

Day 1 - 90

Welcome to Day 1 of our 1% Change {90 Day Challenge}!  So glad you have joined me!!

So, first things first, what is the area where you are FoCuSiNg your energy at making a 1% Change?  My 1% Change is being growth oriented versus being goal oriented. Making character growth my #1 Priority.

And because the area of character is so broad, I want to narrow it by focusing on developing the character trait, PeRseVerAnce.  Keeping my nose to the grind even when I am tired and want to quit.  Pressing on when I face discouragement and feel like my efforts are in vain.  Refusing to throw in the towel even for a brief moment.  Keeping my focus.  Having BuLLdOg DeTeRmiNaTiOn and grit.

Because this is a subjective goal rather than an objective one {such as a number on the scale}, I am going to make my goal MeAsuRabLe so that I will know how far I’ve come.  I will do this by rating my perseverance on a scale of 0-5 {5 being high} daily and weekly.

So, here, in front of you all, I am going to rate my perseverance and unfortunately, here’s my number at the beginning of this 90-Day Challenge:

DaY 1 PeRseVerAnCe RaTinG:  2

This is my BaSeLiNe DaTa and now I have a starting place.  Time to move from here to where I desire to be – persevering and unwavering!

As for your 1% Change, it is time to measure where you’re at.  You can use the 0-5 scale that I discussed or come up with your own system of measurement.  Just make sure you measure your starting point because as the saying goes, If you can’t measure it, you can’t ImPrOvE it.

Thanks for joining me!  Let’s make it a great 1% Change day!  🙂

1% Change {90-Day Challenge}

The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.
~Vince Lombardi

Hi there Friends!

Up for a ChAlleNge?  How about a 1% Change {90-Day Challenge}!?

1% Change 90 Days

For 90 days we are going to focus on making a daily 1% ChaNgE.  Just think of how much all those daily 1% Changes will add up to over the course 90 days!

During these 90 days we will be sharing encouraging posts for inspiration and encouragement.  The beauty of this challenge is that you get to choose what your one change will be!  So pick OnE ThiNg.  Yes, for us all-or-nothing types this will be a challenge, but we can do it, we can narrow it down to One Thing!

As you contemplate what your One Thing will be, that thing you want to make a 1% Change in, you may want to consider the following question by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan in their book The One Thing:

What’s the One Thing I can do such that by doing it everything will be easier or unnecessary?

Pick whatever you want, but make these 90 days count!  Pick something that is going to really add value to your life.

As you are thinking about your One Thing, let me share with you mine.  For the next 90 days I want be GrOwTh OriEnTeD.  I want to focus on growing my character.

This includes showing up each day, being InTeNtiOnaL and working on persevering when times get tough, discouraging, or challenging.

If, at the end of the 90 Days, I make positive changes in my character, I will consider this challenge a SuCcEsS.

So, now it’s your turn.  Let me know what your One Thing is!

GeT YoUr PoSsE!  We are about to begin the 1% Change {90-Day Challenge}!  See you tomorrow – Day #1!

Independence Day

Festive and colorful fireworks display

Happy July 4th!!

Today I will be celebrating this favorite holiday with a parade, fireworks, and family & friends.

Of course, food will be a part of this celebration, as well.  And although there will be time to enjoy the classic 4th of July foods, more importantly, I will also be celebrating my Independence Day from food’s tyranny.  I know exactly that date because I actually signed a contract with myself.

It was April 24, 2012.

Although Lara and I had been talking Peace with Food for about a year on that date, April 24th is the date that we made it “official” by committing to ourselves and each other that we would never diet again.

And here we are, over three years later.  Living in greater levels of freedom and peace than we ever dreamed possible.  I say degrees, because that is what the Peace with Food journey is all about, taking little steps, growing in peace and freedom, one step, one degree at a time.

Slow?  At times, yes.

Worth it?  We wouldn’t go back for anything.

And the feedback we are getting from folks taking the Peace with Food journey is incredible.  Not only are people losing weight they never thought possible, peace is filtering into other areas of their life, because, as one of our friends taking this journey with us has stated, “It really is that powerful.”

So this 4th of July, if you’re tired of food being a dictator in your life, and desperately want to make Peace with Food won’t you join us?

Why not make it “official”?  Let today be your Peace with Food Independence Day!

Take-Home Message:  Make it “official”.  Today can be your Independence Day living a life of Peace with Food!

How my tile grout taught me an important lesson about life

Typical me. I was on a mission to do a quick clean sweep through the house. To swiftly pick up everything off the floors and tidy up the entire house. My second room was the guest bathroom. I mopped, grabbed the dirty laundry, and decided I needed to move on…until…I got a wild hair to deep-clean the grout on the floor.

Well guess what?

As I began scrubbing, the grout started to come off!Grout2

My head immediately started to spin. I’ve always wanted darker grout in here, so it doesn’t look so dirty all the time. If I just keep scrubbing I could probably remove all the grout right now!  Then, I noticed the trim around the tub. You know, if I’m going to remove all the grout, I might as well rip out the water-damaged baseboards!

Lara…what was the goal today? Was it to start remodeling your bathroom???

Nope. The goal was to efficiently tidy up the house so I could move on with my day.

Sometimes we have a goal, but once we get rolling we become distracted. Whether you surf the Internet for a healthy recipe and you end up reading an article on how you aren’t exercising enough, or you decide you are going to try being more patient with your kids but a T.V. interview shares the importance of doing more crafts with your kids, reading to them more, and setting aside more one-on-one time, FOCUS ON THE GOAL and what you set out to do in the first place.

This is hard to do, I know. There is so much information out there, and unlimited reasons to get distracted. Do yourself a favor and put your blinders on. Keep you eyes straight ahead and get one goal under your belt before you begin entertaining something else.

Your Lara

Take-Home Message: No matter how many distractions you are presented with, FOCUS on the G O A L and accomplish what you set out to do first.

Are You Growing?

grow!

Woo-hoo!!!  Today was the last day of school!

It is SUMMER and I am excited!  Can you tell?!

This morning before my girls went to school I took their height measurements.  I kinda thought they had grown a lot this year, but Whoa!! they had both grown at least three inches!!

Today if you were to measure your personal growth would you see progress from the past 6-12 months?

My kids grew because, among other things, I continually fed them.  And I did this daily.  I didn’t see their growth over night, but wow, what a difference a little bit makes over a period of time.

When it comes to your personal growth, what are you doing to grow your character?  Are you reading/listening to any inspiring, personal development books or talks?  Are you hanging out with people who have the type of character you admire and desire?

Growth isn’t guaranteed.  It only comes by being intentional.

So, if you’re thinking about what books will make it on your summer reading list, why not consider putting a personal growth book towards the top?  Reading (and reflecting on) it will constantly raise the mark on your growth chart. . . Without you even realizing it.

Hope you have a great kickoff to your summer!

1% Change

1 % Change

I’ve been intrigued ever since I heard a couple of my mentors talk about 1% Changes.

Maybe that’s because I am such an all-or-nothing person and quite frankly I am tired of that insanity.  So the thought of making a 1% Change for 30 days is actually kinda exciting for me.  Probably because I’ve never tried something so bite-sized and achievable!  What a concept!

So, are you up for joining me?  If so, just focus on making one change a day for 30 days.

That’s it.

And at the end of the 30 days we will have chalked up a 30% Change.  A 30% improvement.  Crazy easy, I know.

So, here’s my 1% Change.  Eat two fruits and two veggies a day.  I know some of you uber (do people still use that word or is it out of vogue?) healthy people may be laughing out loud regarding my change, but small steps people, small steps!

So, what’s your 1% Change?  Let me know, I would love to cheer you on!
