Day 52 – 1% Change {90-Day Challenge} Funkville

Inaction breeds doubt and fear.  Action breeds confidence and courage.  If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it.  Go out and get busy.

Day 52 - 90

Have you ever had one of those days where everything seemed to be humming along just fine when {{BAMB!}} out of the blue you get hijacked by those obnoxious intruders also known as cruddy feelings?

Well, that describes my day today.  Talk about being blind-sided.  Just a few hours earlier I had a convo with Lara that had fired us both up as we talked about the future of Peace with Food and plans for the future.

Life was great!

Then came ThE HiJaCk.

I really don’t know what brought it on, but instantly I was transported to Funkville.  Ever been there?  I was overcome with ambivalent, vague, and LoUsY FeeLiNgS.

Is this really happening?  Just hours ago I was on a high and now I am feeling pretty low – no energy, no motivation, no spark whatsoever.

So I did the only thing I knew to do.  SaiD a PrAyEr and then RiPpEd It LiKe a BaNd-AiD.  Yes, I  got to work. There was no way I was going to let the Funk get the best of me.

And true to form, after awhile I realized that those crazy intruders were gone.  I was living life in color again.

Next time you encounter the hijack, why not give this system a try?  Or come up with your own.  Just find that something that helps you ExiT OuT Of FuNkViLLe.

Coconut Peanut Butter Balls

Here is another FAVORITE! I get so many compliments on these.

Coconut Peanut Butter Balls

Combine the following into a large bowl:
1 C. Oatmeal
1/2 C. Peanut Butter
1/3 C. Honey
1 C. Coconut Flakes
1/2 C. Ground Flaxseed
1/2 C. Mini Chocolate Chips
1 tsp. Vanilla

Directions: After thoroughly mixed, use a 1″ cookie scoop to form balls on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Get your hands slightly wet and roll each scoop to make completely round balls. Put baking sheet in the freezer until all balls are completely frozen. Remove from sheet and store in gallon-sized ziploc bag in freezer. It’s a great grab-and-go breakfast or snack! Enjoy!

*Instead of lining a baking sheet with parchment paper, I use the underside of the plastic lid that came with my 9×13 baking dish. This makes for quick and easy cleanup, and the balls don’t stick to the surface after freezing.

*You don’t have to freeze your balls when storing–you could store them in the fridge–but I find that I enjoy them more when they are cold and it forces me to eat them slower 😉

*If you don’t like coconut, leave it out. With that said, I have had many people say they aren’t fans of coconut but don’t notice it in these, so they kept it in.

*Remember, if you don’t like some of the above ingredients, omit or swap them out with something else! PWF is all about finding what works for you, so don’t be afraid to tweak the above to your liking 🙂

Day 43 – 1% Change {90-Day Challenge} Won’t Let Go

Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go.
~William Feather

Day 43 - 90

HeLp!!

Boy, oh boy, am I struggling.  I don’t see any progress and I want to quit, but where in the world would I go and what would I do?  I am so hungry for my dream.  It propels me forward.  My PuRpOsE PuShEs Me OnWaRd. I know for me, quitting would amount to about a day and then I would be back at it.  So what else can I do but keep pressing on?

*Sigh*

But seriously, I am seeing nooooooo progress.  I feel like I am expending so much energy with nothing to show for it.  This is so unbearable that I just want to explode out of my own skin.  Can I let out a big AHHHGGGGGHHH!!!!

GeT a gRiP, RoByNn!

SoMeHoW, SoMeWaY this challenge is going to catapult you forward, but how in the world is it going to do that?!  I don’t know, but I just know that there is a higher purpose for me going through this difficulty, so I’m HaNgiNg On.  Won’t let go.

Goodbye Joneses! Hello Freedom!

So here’s the truth: I have never considered myself to be a very good writer.  When I first started blogging and writing 4+ years ago it was easy to give up because of the following thoughts:  What if people think my posts are horrible?  What if someone thinks I’m not very SmArT? What if someone doesn’t like my writing style?

Although writing is a bit out of my CoMFOrT zone, I know I’m never going to be a good writer unless I work at it and have someone critique me.  Society influences make us think we need to be perfect, but look how many of these thoughts keep us from doing what we really want to do?

For example, let’s say you were feeling the need to be on a budget with your finances. For a moment you considered taking a deeper look at your current situation but then, after a few minutes, you talked yourself out of it. The thoughts in your head sounded something like this: “What if I traded in my new car for something older and used that money to pay off my credit cards?  Forget it…I can’t bear looking silly driving a car that is more than 5 years old!”  Sound familiar?

You’ve probably heard the quote ‘what would you do if you knew you could not fail?’  So many of the reasons why we never attempt to answer that question is because we are worried about what everyone else thinks. But what does it really matter what others think?  Can you really call the people who don’t support you, “F R I E N D S“?  Why surround yourself with people who aren’t going to encourage and support you in doing what is best for YOU?  This is YOUR LIFE. You have the power to choose how you want to live it.  Don’t give in to society.  Follow what is in your heart.

So whatever life change you want to make (drastic or not), remind yourself of WHY you are doing it.  Don’t live in misery because of what everyone else thinks. Don’t limit yourself on the things you want to accomplish because the Joneses are standing on your doorstep. I’ve been there too.  It’s okay.  It’s normal.  Acknowledge this challenge and ChAnGe your way of thinking by taking control of your life. Get excited about feeling F R E E and the rest will come.  Trust me. 🙂

Day 37 – 1% Change {90-Day Challenge} Who Are Your Mentors?

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.
~Jim Rohn

Day 37 - 90

So, if you are the average of the FiVe PeOpLe you spend the most time with, what kind of person are you?  Do you like the person you have become?

That’s a deep question, I know, but it is definitely worth taking the time to think about.  What kind of people do you HaNg OuT WiTh?  Are they people you aspire to be like?  Do they challenge you to do better than you are doing and go further than you are going?

If you’ve been reading my 1% Change {90-Day Challenge}, you may have noticed that I talk about My MeNtOrS from time to time.  These are individuals that in many ways are living the life that I want to live.  They have a vast amount of wisdom.  And because they are further down the road than I am, their input is of utmost importance.

I remember when I first read Jack Canfield (author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series) talk about the importance of mentors in his book The Success Principles.  It stirred in me the desire to have mentors of my own.  I didn’t have any mentors at the time, and really didn’t know who even to ask.  So I UsEd tHe ReSoUrCeS I HaD and enlisted mentors whose material I could read, watch, or listen to.  People like John C. Maxwell, who although they didn’t know me, were passing on their wisdom and experience.

That was a few years ago and today I now have a handful of personal mentors, but it all began by using what I had.

Who are your mentors?  Maybe the first question to ask is, “What kind of person do you AsPiRe To BeCoMe?”  Once you know that question, then you can find the mentor that best fits and begin to learn from them.

It really is true.  You become like the people you spend your time with.  So ChOoSe WiSeLy.  🙂

Lara’s Energy Balls

Many of you have asked for this recipe which I reference many times in our book. Here you go, enjoy!

Lara's Energy Balls

Combine the following into a large bowl:
2 C. Oatmeal
3/4 C. Chocolate Chips (I either use chocolate or white chocolate)
1 C. Peanut Butter
1 C. Ground Flaxseed
2/3 C. Honey
2 tsp. Vanilla
1/2 C. Raisins
1/2 C. Craisins

Enjoy!

*You don’t have to freeze your balls when storing–you could store them in the fridge–but I find that I enjoy them more when they are cold and it forces me to eat them slower 😉

*This recipe makes a big batch. If you plan to tweak the recipe, cut the recipe in half the first few times, until you find the combination you like best.

*Remember, if you don’t like some of the above ingredients, omit or swap them out with something else! PWF is all about finding what works for you, so don’t be afraid to tweak the above to your liking 🙂

Day 35 – 1% Change {90-Day Challenge} Pursuit Mode

Day 35

Whew!  Life’s been challenging and sometimes you have to move from the PuRsUiT MoDe to survival mode.

That was me last week.

With everything going on – Dad’s situation and an over-extended schedule (that’s my fault but there’s a great lesson there – maybe sometime I can share) – I have had to put my goal of 1% Change On HoLd.  Not for long, but when your head is under water the only thing you care about is getting it above water and gasping for a breath.

That was me last week.  But now I am getting back on schedule and back to pursuing my 1% Change – focusing on the process of perseverance.

Back to pursuit mode.

Day 31 JE

I’ve had a ReVeLaTiOn, an “Aha” moment and it is so good!

My response to trials and difficulties has been to try to get out of them as quickly as possible.  But I’ve come to realize that God’s right here in this hard place.  ThAt’s where HiS gRaCe iS for me.  So if I want to try to get out of this trial I’ll be on my own.  I won’t be where His grace and power are for my life. Journal

So, Girl, sit back and relax!  EmBrAcE tHiS pLaCe and this moment.  God’s got you here and this is where He is at.  .  .

There’s no other place I’d rather be!
